Remember 2022? It feels like yesterday, but also a lifetime ago! That’s when I, Carey-Ann Lind, officially joined the Flow DNA team. Duncan, the brilliant mind behind Flow DNA, was in the USA, embarking on an incredible journey to transform his vision of modular fire and LED fans into a tangible reality.
He trained me remotely, dedicating hundreds of hours on Discord to ensure I was up to speed. While I was learning the ropes in South Africa, Duncan was immersing himself in a Makerspace – a concept we truly need more of here in SA! He spent countless hours bringing these innovative fans to life. I vividly remember watching him meticulously cut and assemble each piece, often for hours on end. I was so captivated that I started taking screenshots, telling him that one day these creations would be released to the public and loved by many. That last picture in the original Instagram post? That was the first time he put them together, I couldn’t be prouder of what he’s achieved!
A Little More About Those Awesome Fans
Our Flow DNA Mojura Fan Kit is super cool because it’s totally modular! You can easily swap out different frames and grips to customize your flow.
For Fire Fans: These beauties are crafted from tough, lightweight aluminum, so they’re built to last. We’ve got a few different wick configurations, like our 5-wick “Pantera” and 6-wick “Facehugger” frames, all with our signature Kevlar wicks.
And for the LED Fans (our beta babies!): Get ready for some serious light shows! These fans pack a punch with 52 LEDs per fan, and they’re smart too – they react to your motion and even sound! Plus, they’re Bluetooth and WiFi enabled for easy control, charge up with USB-C, and have a replaceable battery that lasts for hours of glowing fun.
We’ve also got a couple of awesome grip options, including durable polycarb for fire fans and SBS plastic for LED and practice fans. They’re comfy and designed to give you great control. You can dive into all the nitty-gritty details on the website!
By the end of 2024, Duncan approached me with an exciting proposition: to take a leap with him. Without hesitation, I jumped! We decided to pre-launch the modular fire and LED fans, with his trusty little 3D printer, affectionately named Beep Boop, by our side. We’re still mid-air, holding our breath as we navigate this exhilarating next phase of Flow DNA’s evolution.
We owe a massive thank you to everyone who has supported Duncan’s dream thus far, and to all of you who will continue to do so. The flow community has truly become my home and safe space. Let’s be honest, flow people are the best people!
