Fangeng Fins – 3D Printed Fin Props by Flow DNA

Description

Originally inspired by a shape made by Brian Hirschberger that he named “FloFin®”, we started working on our own version back in 2021.
This is our 3D printed version made from SBS plastic.  Arguably more durable than our HDPE Fangeng in terms of impact strength, and available in a range of colours.

Since we consider these kinds of props to be composed of a c-shape (geng) with a fan grip, we call them Fangeng.

The geng blade c-shape creates optical illusions in motion, and the circles cut into them stimulate persistence of vision effects making that even cooler! Due to the asymmetrical nature of the props, spinning in different directions creates different optical illusions. The feeling of spinning them is like “falling into” the forwards direction, or “jumping out of” the reverse direction.

We’ve optimised the shape even more for for swinging, spinning and no-beat juggling.  Other types of fins/halfgeng have thumbholes that get in the way of spinning techniques.  We removed that from our design years ago so they would be more fun to spin.  You can also do some boxy-techy manipulations, but they feel best when you move with big circles.

When they are fit together they make an S-shape like an S-staff!

Care Instructions:

* Although we have tested these fans by bouncing them on bricks, we are obligated to recommend that you don’t do that.  Rather bounce them on less abrasive surfaces.
** SBS can start softening and warping when they’re subjected to temperatures over 70°C (158°F) for extended periods.
*** It also dissolves in D-Limonene and other aromatic solvents, so try to avoid peeling your oranges on top of them.
